About PCTwin

What does PCTwin do?

It moves your files, apps and settings from your old laptop to your new one, even when they are different brands or run different systems. At the end, a report tells you what arrived and the few things you still need to do yourself.

Is PCTwin free?

Yes. Moving your own laptops is free, with no limit on how many moves, and it stays free. Unlimited moves, every pair of systems, apps installed fresh and Smart will never be put behind a payment. Optional paid services will come later. They never take anything away from the free app.

How can it be free?

Because the free app is not where the money comes from. Later, PCTwin will offer optional paid services: tools for repair shops and technicians, plans for families and companies, and online storage for a copy of your setup. Those pay for the work. The engine that moves your files is open source, with no licence checks, so the free app cannot quietly turn into a trial.

Do I need an account?

No. The free app works without an account. Joining the waitlist does not create one either.

When will it be ready?

We have not set a date yet. When it is ready, we will email everyone on the list at the same time.

Can I download it now?

Not yet. There is nothing to download and no test version. When PCTwin is ready, you will install it on both laptops from getpctwin.com. If anyone offers you PCTwin before then, it is not from us.

Which laptops will it work on?

Windows to Windows, Windows to Mac, Mac to Windows and Mac to Mac. Linux to and from Windows and Mac, starting with Ubuntu and Fedora. Chromebooks to and from any of these, with lighter support. The brand of laptop does not matter. We will publish the exact system versions that work when the app comes out.

How do the two laptops connect?

At first, both laptops join the same Wi-Fi. Your old laptop shows a name, like Blue Fox, and a 6-digit code. On the new laptop, pick that name and type the code. The new laptop then shows a number. Pick the same number on your old laptop. Your files then travel directly between the two laptops over a private, encrypted link. They do not go through the internet or through our servers. Moves over a network cable, a direct cable or an external drive come later, also free.

Will my apps come across?

Instead of copying app files and hoping they work, PCTwin installs your apps fresh on the new laptop from their official sources, then brings across the settings it can. Some apps will ask you to sign in again or enter a licence key. The report lists them for you.

Will anything change on my old laptop?

No. PCTwin only reads from your old laptop. It does not delete, move or change anything there.

Is it safe?

Your files go straight from one laptop to the other, scrambled so no one else on the Wi-Fi can read them. Only your pick on the old laptop unlocks them. Apps are installed from official sources and checked first. Our security page explains how, in plain words.

What are Standard and Smart?

Two ways to use the same free app. Standard gives you simple choices: tick what to bring and untick what to leave. Smart lets you say what you want in your own words, like “leave my Downloads behind”. It suggests a plan, and nothing happens until you approve it. Smart switches on only when your laptop can run it. Both are free.

Will it be in my language?

The app is planned in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese and Hindi first. Our emails are in English for now. When you join, you can tell us your language, which helps us decide what to add first.

Who makes PCTwin?

Creole AI Labs. The engine that moves your files is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, so anyone can check what it does. The code is on GitHub. You can write to us at support@getpctwin.com.

About the waitlist

What will you email me?

A short welcome email when you join, and one email when PCTwin is ready. If you tick the box for news, an occasional update while we build it. Every email has a link to change this or leave.

I did not get the welcome email.

You are on the list anyway. The welcome email just says hello and gives you the links to change your choices or leave. It usually arrives within a few minutes, but can take a few hours when many people join at once. Look in your spam or junk folder. Every email we send later has the same links.

Does joining early get me in sooner?

No. There is no queue and no test version to win. Everyone on the list hears at the same time.

How do you count the people waiting?

We count each email address on the list once. People who leave are not counted. We show the real number from the very first person, and it updates on the page as people join, within about a minute.

How do I change my email address?

Unsubscribe using the link in any of our emails, then join again with your new address.

How do I leave the list?

Use the unsubscribe link in any of our emails. To have your details deleted as well, email privacy@getpctwin.com.

What do you do with my details?

We use them only to email you about PCTwin, and your optional answers only to plan what to support first. We never sell them or use them for advertising. Our privacy notice has the full details.
